Ask your parents – they can explain it.

If you’re 17-20, expect to pay at least £700 for car insurance.
We need it to cover other people, other peoples car and your car if you are ever involved in a car accident.
Quotes are an estimate guess on how much it’ll cost.

car insurance is a legal requirement (I’m assuming your in the UK)
insurance is there to cover you against any liability you as a driver may come across and there are different levels you can pick from:
third party only:this cover only pays out for damages you cause to other vehicles, objects,or people,so if you damage your car you pay for your own repairs
third party fire and theft:
same as third party only but you will also be able to make a claim in the event of fire or theft(of or from the car)
comprehensive:this cover allows you to also claim for damage that you caused to your car being your fault or not
if you dont have any insurance you will get points on your licence and be liable for the damages out of your own pocket. the idea of insurance is in the event of an accident you are not at a financial loss for example if your car is written off you will be paid enough money so you could go and buy a replacement of that exact car again
a insurance quote is a figure that the insurance company would want you to pay for the insurance to be with them. you can have as many quotes as you like and many companies will give you better prices than others but you have to make sure you get what you need and not just go for the cheepest policy.
hope this helps and if u need any more info just let me know

Car insurance is pretty self explanatory – it is insurance for your car, and anyone who drives it.
You need it for the same reason you need any insurance – because if you have an accident then you don’t have to pay the full cost of repairs yourself. Legally you need it for the benefit of anyone who you may have an accident with so that they are not at a loss due to your fault.
A quote is an insurance company’s offer of a price to provide insurance for you, on the basis of the information you have given them.

car insurance is needed by law, to pay out to any one or any thing like walls etc, you hit in an accident, the basic third party just covers the damage to there car and not yours. if you add fire and theft this covers the cost for theft or fire damage to your car. fully comprehensive covers damage to theres and yours but on all you have to pay an excess usually the first few hundred pounds if you are 17 as most new drivers have more accidents than experienced older drivers . you get quotes from insurance companies or brokers there are lots online like go compare and elephant where you enter all your details like name age where u live and what u want to drive and it will search loads of companies to give you the best price. dont lie about your details or your insurance will be invalid

Say, for instance, you are driving your car and bang into someone else’s car. If it is your fault you would have to pay for the repairs to their car, which could run into thousands of pounds. So the law in the UK says you, as a driver, must have insurance to cover this, in case you couldn’t yourself. Insurance means you pay an insurance company a sum of money every year, which is known as the “premium”, and in return they will meet these big bills for you if it happens.
That’s what is known in the motoring community as third party cover, the third party being the other driver, and is the minimum the law allows you to have. You can also add extras such as insurance against your car being stolen or damaged by fire. That’s called “third party fire & theft” insurance. Or you can add even more so that the insurance company will also pay for damage to your own car, and that called “comprehensive” insurance. Thes extras mean that your premium will be more expensive.
When you look for insurance for your car, the insurance companies you look at will ask you some questions about your car and about yourself, and then give you a “quote”. That says “based on what you’ve told us, this is how much we would charge you”. Most people will look at several insurance companies and get several quotes before deciding which one to go for.
