Do I Need To Buy Car Insurance Before Driving A Used Car That I Purchase Home?

I am thinking about buying a car. I won’t know if I’m buying this used car until I go look at it. How do I drive it home, if I won’t have car insurance at the moment that I buy it?

Depending on the coverages you currently have on any existing vehicles, those coverages will extend to the vehicle for 5-30 days depending on your state and of course coverages. That means you would be covered until you bind the vehicle at your local insurance agent’s office. Once you take possession of the vehicle, you can always call your insurance company, and they can extend the coverage over the phone. It’s a simple process really.

You need car insurance as soon as you put a car on the road.
If you decide to buy the car then ask the seller to hold on to it while you phone your insurance giving them the make model and registration. They will give you a cover note. So if in the unlikely event you get stopped by the police you will have 7 days to produce this cover note at a police station.

For you to register the car, you need to have an insurance, otherwise they wont do it. So you wont have your car registered to your license plate (if you have one) and you wont have insurance. Really bad if you get stopped by the police… you can drive with a tag, no registration or insurance at your own risk.

No you don’t. If it’s a regular passenger car (not an RV or motorcycle), your insurance company USUALLY will cover you for up to 30 days if you are already insured on another car.

many insurance policies allow you to drive newly purchased vehicles for a short period of time, if you already have insurance
before driving a vehicle home, contact your insurance agent and the state patrol of every state(particularly the state in which you buy it) you will be driving through to find out what you need

if u decide to buy the car, getting insurance is really easy. if you have a cell phone, u can call before you drive it home. you can ask the agent on the phone what info youll need if you do get pulled over after you hang up.

Don’t buy it unless you have insurance. Go look at it, and if you decide to buy it, put a deposit on it, get a receipt and then get your insurance. Then you can go back and get your car

You need to have insurance to dive it legally. You could either have it towed or drive it illegally and hope not to get caught
