Car Insurance Dodgers
Car Insurance, like our taxes is a necessary evil, but did you know that during 2008, over 1.7 million UK drivers got behind the wheel without being insured?
Research conducted by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) showed that the worst offenders are motorists in the Greater London area where 13% of vehicles are uninsured, followed closely by drivers in Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
Concerned by this revelation, the MIB are taking action and launching a campaign to highlight the penalties that you could face if you are one of the 1.7 million risking it behind the wheel.
The MIB recognises that finances are tight but reminds motorists that a fixed penalty of £200 is the first in a line of punishments handed out to offenders. Six penalty points and possibly having your car seized and destroyed means the driving without Car Insurance is simply not worth the risk.
Around 500 uninsured vehicles are seized each day on UK roads and new measures have just been introduced by the government to make life even more difficult for uninsured drivers. It will become an offence to keep an uninsured vehicle – whether you’re on the road or not!
If you own an uninsured vehicle but don’t intend to drive it, you could still get hit with a fine if you DVLA that you are officially off the road with a Statutory off Road Notification. You will be given a set period in which to take out cover but the MIB are reminded you that vehicles that remain uninsured may be seized and destroyed!
Even if you’re on the road for a short period you can benefit from companies offering short term car insurance. Make sure you compare car insurance online to find the best companies, and always read the small print. For cheap car insurance, it is crucial to shop around before you commit to a provider.
